AHH! So this last week has been hectic! We decided to take a trip to my grandparents in Indiana and of course there is no service where they live!
I apologize that I have not been able to post on here for about the past week! I started a new series and I am still working to get that going! I promise I will do a better job at it :).
So I started this blog post last Tuesday and decided to add if for this Tip Tuesday (but on Thursday).
I would have to say what started my obsession with planners was the movie 'New York Minute'. Jane Ryan's day planner in the movie caught my eye! I would rewatch the scenes in the movie with her planner and just admire it! So I began my search to find myself the perfect day planner.
I have always been a fan of planning and organizing things. I always liked to keep a notebook or some kind of agenda with me at all times but nothing was ever working out. I decided to try the electronic way when I purchased my iPad. It was working great with just a few glitches: it was wayyyy to big, hard to jot things down, and not very portable.
When instagram became popular I began searching the hashtags for a better way to stay organized and seeing how others do it. I started searching with words like #agendas, #planners, and #organized. I was very happy to see how many people still use planners and agendas! One photo hashtaged the word 'filofax'. I thought it was just a fancy way of saying planner but I was wrong. It opened my eyes to a whole new world of organization!
MY FILOFAX
I had a rough beginning finding the Filofax and purchasing the one I wanted. I wasn't sure if this was the right thing for me so I didn't want to spend a fortune. I would have to say these planners do cost a bit more than others but it all depends on the style you want! I had a lot of help from the 'filofaxers' on instagram who helped me pick out mine!
The one I chose to purchase is the Filofax Metropol in the personal size in black. You can find it here!
So when you open my Filofax I carry a notebook (for quick notes & it is not pictured of course), my pen (from JCP), and some post-it notes in the pockets. For the card holders I typically put business cards that I am dealing with or just picked up along the way.
After that I have my 'dashboard' where I keep post-it notes of what needs to be done and memos.
I then have a pocket that I could not find something that could fit in it to I added a verse out of the Bible that my mom wrote for me and a photo of my fiance and I from vacation last year.
I then have two zip lock inserts that I keep my tabs and paper clips.
I then have an overview of what my planner will contain. I use highlighters and sticky notes to organize my information and details.
Blue: School
Pink: Work
Orange: Important Dates
I then use Avery Multipurpose Labels for my bills and birthdates.
Then comes my tabs. My first section is a week on two pages view. Here is keep my work schedule, appointments, and dates.
The second section is for everything else. This includes Mike's work schedule, things I need to do, birthdays and bills, ideas, etc.
The rest of my tabs are pretty generic. I have a section for information, then lists, notes, and then schedules.
In the back I keep my hole reinforcers, Martha Stewart tabs, and some notes.
I hope you guys enjoyed this post! Everyone feels organized in their own way, you just need to take a step and try something new!
Thanks Loves,
emikesler
I absolutely love your planner! I am writing my master thesis and I googled Jane Ryan and come up with your blog! Love how you keep things organised! Definitely inspirational! Greetings from Croatia! :)
